Pune police commissioner Meeran Borwankar on Saturday said that the investigation so far has revealed that gangster Sharad Mohol and his aide Alok Bhalerao murdered terror suspect Mohammad Qateel Mohammad Jafir Siddiqui in Yerwada Central Prison after a spur-of the moment dispute.

She said investigation so far has not revealed involvement of any organised crime syndicate in Siddiqui’s murder.

Investigation into the case is being conducted by the state criminal investigation department (CID). Besides,a police team led by inspector Kishor Jadhav of Yerwada police station is probing the case. The offence of murder in this case has been registered with the Yerwada police.

Mohol and Bhalerao had murdered Siddiqui,an Indian Mujahideen suspect,at Yerwada jail on June 8.

Siddiqui,as well as Mohol and Bhalerao were lodged in the Anda Cell barrack of the prison. It is suspected that murder was the fallout of an instant dispute between them.

However, investigators are probing all angles to confirm if there was any other reason behind the murder of Siddiqui, who was a suspect in several terror cases across the country.

Both Mohol and Bhalerao are in the custody of the state CID.
