“I feel like I am on top of the world,” exclaimed Rajiv Agrawal, when Newsline informed him that his daughter has topped the ICSE,that too nationally. Anika scored 98.4 per cent marks over all with cent per cent marks in Maths and Computer.

Interestingly, two of the toppers are not only from the city but also from the same school — St Mary’s.

Anika and her family are currently vacationing in USA and will be back on May 28. “Till now,we knew she was the school topper. But this is just getting better and better. I knew she would get good marks, but national topper?!?” Rajiv said excitedly.

Rajiv Agrawal is a software engineer working for a multinational company in Pune. Originally from Delhi,Anika’s family also settled in Pune several years ago.

“Yesterday,I was very nervous about my result. So we went to sleep early. Keeping the time difference in mind,I set the alarm for 5 am. But when I tried to access the ICSE official website,it did not open. Then a classmate sent me a text message informing me my marks and that I was the school topper,” said Anika over the phone.

“I was just thrilled! I mean I never imagined I would get 98 percent because I am not a very very studious person,” said Anika, quickly adding,“I mean,I used to be among the top three in school…but this is just amazing!”

Unlike Simran, however,Anika is yet to receive any calls from her friends and relatives. “Since we are in the US,our relatives also don’t know how I fared. We wanted to go to a temple, but finding one here is a bit difficult. We all will go out and celebrate soon, but haven’t yet decided what we’ll do,” said Anika, who is also a trained pianist and also takes Spanish lessons as part of co-curricular activities.

Anika’s younger sister also studies in the same school, while her mother is an economic analyst at a company in Pune. “I am really happy. She studied really hard. She deserved it. We are very proud,” said Reena Agrawal,Anika’s mother.
