A member of the notorious Nilesh Ghaywal gang was injured on Wednesday night after some persons suspected to be members of rival Gajanan Marne gang allegedly opened fire on him.

According to Haweli police, the criminal on police records,Shivaji Sashte alias Shiva (34) of Dhankawadi, was shot at when he was on his way to Pune from Khanapaur in a car.

Inspector Maruti Ingawale of Haweli police station said,“Some assailants came on a bike and shot at him on Khanapur Road. He sustained a bullet injury on his leg. After he was shot at,he lost control of the vehicle and the car rammed into a dumper.

The attackers fled the spot. Sashte has named Pappu Kudle of Marne gang as a suspect in the case. We have launched a probe. Doctors said Sashte was stable now”.

The police said Sashte was a member of the gang run by a criminal on police records,Nilesh Ghaywal, who was a trusted aide of notorious criminal Gajanan Marne. The two reportedly had a fallout over money and Ghaywal formed his own gang.

The two groups have clashed several times in the past. In an attack by Ghaywal gang in 2010,Marne’s gang member Sachin Kudle was allegedly shot and his brother Pappu Kudle was injured, the police said.
