Gutkha worth Rs 8.2 lakh seized from godown at Mangalwar Peth

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday seized gutkha worth Rs 8.25 lakh from a godown owned by Sai Enterprises in Mangalwar Peth.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday seized gutkha worth Rs 8.25 lakh from a godown owned by Sai Enterprises in Mangalwar Peth.

Joint Commissioner FDA (food) Shashikant Kekare said pouches of different brands of gutkha such as Goa Gutkha — green and red packets,RMD and Vimal were seized from the godown.

In two other raids at Shivajinagar and Marketyard,gutkha worth Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 was seized.

So far gutkha worth Rs 50 lakh has been seized in Pune division. FDA officials said they will have to stock the seized material till the High Court gives its verdict on September 12. FDA officials will not be able to destroy the material till the verdict,Kekare said. The FDA has conducted 3,859 inspections in Pune division,of which 1,709 were in the city.
