The food safety officers of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with Pune Municipal Corporations (PMC) octroi department seized gutkha worth Rs 60 lakh from three trucks that entered the city on Monday. The trucks belonging to Vishnu Pouch Packaging Limited,Ahmedabad,were heading towards Karnataka when the PMC octroi officials intercepted them.
The FDA assistant commissioners Shivaji Desai and Dilip Sangat supervised the raid in which as many as 900 cartons of gutkha were seized from the trucks.
The FDA food safety officers intensified their inspections following the raid. FDA Joint Commissioner Shashikant Kekare said the drive will intensify during the Ganesh Festival.
