City MP Suresh Kalmadi, whose public appearances had become few and far after his name cropped up in the CWG scam – he had skipped the Pune Festival last year for the same reason – is set to attend this edition of the festival,an initiative started under his leadership. A row, however, has broken out over the guest list that does not include the mayor. It was improper to keep the mayor out, said NCP state spokesperson Ankush Kakade. The festival has emerged as a major event of the city,he said adding,As the first citizen, the mayor has to be part of the city or its a disrespect to the city. The organisers, however, said the mayor had other commitments. Chief co-ordinator Krishnakanth Kudale said,We had written to mayor Vaishali Bankar. She said she would not be available because of other commitments. The mayor, when contacted, said,I have already committed myself to other functions. It was not possible for me to attend the fest. Deputy Chief Minister and Pune guardian minister Ajit Pawar is also missing from the guest list, although NCP minister Chhagan Bhubal is the chief guest. Shiv Sena MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil from Khed would be present but there is no mention of NCP MP Supriya Sule from Baramati among the guests. The list,on the other hand, features several Congress leaders including ministers Patangrao Kadam,Balasaheb Thorat,Harshvardhan Patil, and Nitin Raut, legislator Ramesh Bagve and deputy mayor Deepak Mankar.
