A sessions court on Friday granted ad-interim anticipatory bail to Anita Lande till April 26 in a case of forgery and cheating registered at Yerawada police station earlier this month.
Lande,a candidate who lost in the PCMC polls last year, and a suspended PCMC corporator Seema Renuse Phuge were booked by the police for allegedly submitting fake caste certificates during the civic polls.
Phuge and Lande had contested the civic polls last year from Bhosari Gaothan. Phuge won the election while Lande finished second. A candidate, who finished third, had later approached the PCMC administration with a complaint that the two had submitted invalid caste certificates during the polls. After an inquiry,PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi had suspended Phuge about a month ago.
On April 12,Sudam Darekar,an inspector with the caste certificate verification committee, filed a complaint regarding forgery of caste certificates against Phuge and Lande. The two were booked under Sections 567,467 (forgery of valuable documents),471 (forgery to cheat),420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. Assistant police inspector Dhanaji Shingade is investigating the case.
