TO ensure beautification of traffic islands and dividers is not ignored owing to long term contract, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday decided to give Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract for two years.

The civic body, which is facing staff crunch to carry out civic responsibilities effectively, has sought active participation of citizens to maintain road dividers and islands on city roads on BOT basis. As part of its beautification drive, the civic body has offered 11 islands and 25 dividers to citizens for maintenance. Those taking up the responsibility can install a board sporting their name to inform the public about it.

“We have given nod to a few proposals tabled in the meeting. It was observed that those who get the contract carry out the responsibility at the beginning and ignore it later. They continue to get publicity through its board for longer time. Therefore,it was decided that the contract be given for two years so that the beautification drive can be implemented in an effective manner,” said NCP leader Subhash Jagtap.
