On Friday evening,the city’s celebs event-hopped. In between the fashion week shows,they made their way to the Koregaon Park Plaza for the launch of The Collective,a premium lifestyle retail concept. The store by Madura Fashion & Lifestyle is the brand’s fourth flagship store in India. It flaunted its high-end collections with a fashion show hosted by actress Neha Dhupia. Dhupia also unveiled the spring/summer collection 2012. The theme of the evening was a ‘Mid Summer Night’s Dream’,and invitees loved the dreamy collections. The Collective boasts of names like Armani Collezioni,Versace Collection,True Religion,Adriano Goldschmeid,Hugo Boss,Duchamp,Juicy Couture and Fred Perry to name a few. DJ Whosane’s music took over post the fashion show.

In Black and White

After having won five awards at the Oscars this year,the French film ‘The Artist’ will be showcased at the National Films Archive of India (NFAI) today at 6.30 pm. The film will be screened in association with the Alliance Francaise Pune. The film tells the story of a silent movie star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) who laments the arrival of the talkies.The screening is open to anyone above the age of 18.

Life Size

On Monday,Nitin Chandrakant Desai,Mrunal Kulkarni and Yatin Karyekar visited City Pride Kothrud for the promotion of the film Raja Shivchattrapati. Deputy Mayor of Pune Deepak Mankar was also present. Desai said,“Since my school days,I was always fascinated by Shivaji Maharaj. And,as an artist,he has always inspired me.” The film includes eight major incidences in the life of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj like his birth,the oath taken for Hindiva Swarajya at Rohideshwar temple,the defeat of Afzal Khan,siege of Panhala by Siddi Jauhar,battle of Pavan Khind,attack on Shaista Khan,arrest in Agra and escape,and his coronation. The film has been produced by Iconic Chandrakant Productions Pvt Ltd and directed by Hemant Deodhar and Vijay Rane.

Poetic Reflection

Their music is inspired by the writings of revolutionary poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz,Habib Jalib and Ahmed Faraz. Laal,a progressive and rebellious activist band from Pakistan,brings its repertoire of thought provoking songs to the city on Wednesday. Laal,comprising Dr Taimur Rahman (guitar/ vocals),Mahvash Waqar (back-up vocals),and Haider Rahman (flute),will launch its second album ‘Utho Meri Duniya’ and perform live at Hard Rock Cafe,Koregaon Park,8.30 pm onwards. The album is a dedication to the distinguished poet Faiz’s vision of a classless society. It captures the essence and sentiments of the great poet’s belief of a society without exploitation,class discrimination and oppression. The 10 songs of the album include Na Honay Payee,Ghum Na Kar,Fareeda,Jhooth ka Uncha Sar,and Utho Meri Duniya.
