Engineering student dies in bike accident in Pune

The local police have identified the deceased girl as Matangi Ranjitkumar Chaudhari, a resident of Mumbai, and her injured friend as Saurabh Agarwal (21), also a resident of Mumbai.

A 20-year-old engineering student, who was riding pillion on a bike, died of severe injuries while her college friend, who was driving the bike, sustained critical injuries after he lost control of the bike due to a pothole at Bhangarwadi near Lonavala on Tuesday morning.

The local police have identified the deceased girl as Matangi Ranjitkumar Chaudhari, a resident of Mumbai, and her injured friend as Saurabh Agarwal (21), also a resident of Mumbai.

Police said Chaudhari was a third-year engineering student from Sinhagad College and Agarwal studied in the same college. On Tuesday morning, Matangi had come by train from Mumbai and had got down at Lonavala station. Agarwal had gone to pick her up.

Station duty officer at Lonavala police station said, “Around 9 am, when they came to Bhangarwadi, Agarwal could not judge a pothole on the road and lost control. The two fell down. Both sustained very severe injuries on the head. They were rushed to the hospital but Chaudhari succumbed to her injuries. It took over 40 stitches for the closure of his Agarwal’s head injury and he is currently under observation.”
