Kisan Dhawji Rathod, director of Saffron Developers, was arrested by Pune Rural police on Sunday night for allegedly encroaching on the land owned by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at Shindewadi on Pune-Bangalore highway.
A magisterial court remanded Rathod in police custody for two days. The Pune sessions court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea earlier.
On June 14,NHAI public relations officer (PRO) Malhari Bundgar (46) had lodged a complaint against Rathod brothers for opening an auto showroom,Rathod Motors,on NHAI land without seeking its permission.
We arrested him last night. He was produced in the magistrate court in Bhor today and was sent to two-day police, said additional superintendent of police (Pune rural) Ravindrasingh Pardeshi.
The issue of unauthorised construction on the hillside and close to the highways came to the forefront after a woman and her daughter were washed away by gushing waters and debris during a flash flood in June. Illegal constructions on the hill had been blamed for the mishap. Following the mishap,Kisan Rathod and his brother were arrested by Pune rural police for unauthorised construction on and around Katraj hill. He was released on bail later.
