A magistrates court on Thursday remanded Akash Koli (19),who allegedly murdered 16-year-old Pooja Jadhav after being spurned,to police custody for eight days.
The police produced Koli before the court seeking his custody for 14 days. The post-mortem report stated asphyxia due to throttling tissues as the cause of death. However,doctors have preserved viscera for chemical analysis. She also had six injuries marks on her body made with a sharp object. After murdering Pooja,the accused took away her mobile phone and removed the SIM card from it and was using it with another SIM card, said Inspector (Crime) Subhash Nikam of Chatushrungi police station,who is investigating the case.
The court remanded Koli to police custody till September 21. He has been charged under Section 302 (murder) and other
relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Pooja was gagged to death between 7.30 pm and 8 pm on Saturday. Koli,a resident of Pashan Chawl,is originally from Devapur in Satara district. He was nabbed by crime branch officers on Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that Koli worked in the housekeeping section of a private company at Pashan for a monthly salary of Rs 7,000. Pooja used to attend coaching classes near his office. Police said Koli regularly saw Pooja when she came for the coaching class and also used to stalk her.
On Saturday,the police said,when Pooja left the coaching class and was walking towards her home,Koli followed her. He allegedly intercepted her at an isolated spot and proposed her. When Pooja refused,he allegedly gagged her mouth with grass till she died,said the police. Koli fled after he was convinced that Pooja was dead.
