Just two days after they came to the city in search of work,a couples three-month-old son was allegedly stolen by an unidentified woman and a man in Swargate on Wednesday.
Rekha Pardhe (25) told the police that she along with her husband Raju (27) and their three children Onkar (6),Sainath (3) and Amarnath (three months) came to Pune two days ago from their village in Parbhani district. The family is staying in Undri with a relative.
On Wednesday,the family decided to visit Rekhas sister in Pashan. Senior inspector Ram Pathare said,When they reached Katraj,Raju told Rekha that he wanted to consume alcohol and left her with the children.
After he did not return for a long time,Rekha started crying. A man and woman approached her and said they will help her and also asked if she wanted a job. They told her they knew people who can give her job that will pay Rs 300 per day, he said.
The duo brought the four to Patil Plaza building around 6 pm. The suspect woman told Rekha that the employer may not give her the job if they see the children. The man and Rekha took the lift while the woman waited with the three children. The man told Rekha that he will come in some time and asked her to wait on one of the floors. He then disappeared. When Rekha went down to check on him,the woman and her youngest child were missing. She then went to the police station along with her two children and lodged a complaint.
Pathare added,We are looking at CCTV footage and combing operations have started. We are checking the records of similar crimes across the state. Sketches of the suspects have been made. The photo of the baby and sketches have been sent to various police stations.
