Double delight for Brahme,while Datar clinches men’s title

Adwait Brahme clinched a double crown,while Deepti Chaphekar,Chinmay Datar,Eesha Joshi and Arohi Chajed claimed a title apiece in their respective categories at the Darode-Jog trophy 2013,district-ranking table tennis event on Saturday. The tournament was played at the Sanmitra Sangha’s new venue near Karishma Society in Kothrud.

In the youth boys’ final,Brahme eased past Sidharth Lohapatre 11-5,11-9,18-16,11-5. The Junior boys final was a much tougher affair for top seed Brahme though,as he got the better of second-seed Neel Joshi 11-7,9-11,11-5,8-11,11-5,8-11,11-8 in a marathon match. Brahme’s surge for a third title in the tournament was halted by top seed Chinmay Datar in the men’s final. Datar defeated Brahme 11-7,11-3,9-11,13-11,11-7.

The women’s singles title went to Deepti Chaphekar,who beat Yamini Mehrally 11-8,11-7,11-7,11-5. Mehrally had beaten two-seeded players,including top seed Manasi Munj on her way to the final. However,Chaphekar’s attacking style of play proved too much to handle for Meherally in the summit clash.

Third seed Eesha Joshi won the youth girls title with a 11-6,11-8,11-5,12-10 win over Priyanka Tamhankar. The only upset in the finals being played on Saturday came in the junior girls event,where second seed Arohi Chajed defeated top seed Manasi Munj 11-8,7-11,11-7,11-8,5-11,11-8.
