Don’t book members for extortion if they collect vargani,say leaders

Shiv Sena leader Gajanan Kirtikar and BJP leaders from the city on Wednesday said city police should not create ‘fear’ among members of Ganesh mandals.

The Kirtikar-led delegation,comprising members from Shiv Sena and BJP,submitted a memorandum to Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol,demanding that mandal workers should not be treated like criminals or be booked under charges of extortion for taking vargani (monetary contribution).

The saffron parties demanded that police should not issue notices to traders who give advertisements to mandals and urged them not to put any restrictions on playing dhol tasha after 12 pm during immersion processions.

They said police should not file complaints against youths,including students and working professionals,for playing dhol-tasha.

The leaders demanded that police should not seize loud speakers during processions and issue notices under Section 149 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC). Police should ensure there is no delay in giving required permissions to carry out processions,they said.

Shiv Sena had recently appointed Kirtikar as the in-charge of party affairs for Pune district .

Sena,BJP back Pawar’s remark against CM

The Sena Sena and BJP leaders on Wednesday supported NCP chief Sharad Pawar for his ‘paralysis’ remark directed at Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. On Tuesday,without naming the chief minister,Pawar had criticised him for “keeping files pending for months.” Shiv Sena leader Gajanan Kirtikar said Pawar only expressed what people think.

Sena keen on contesting Baramati Lok Sabha seat

Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivtare has shown interest in contesting Lok Sabha election from Baramati constituency. So far,BJP had been fielding candidate from the constituency. Kirtikar said they are giving a thought on fielding Shiv Sena candidate from Baramati and offer Satara constituency to BJP. Baramati is a stronghold of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Shivtare,who is an MLA from Purandar,has claimed that people of this constituency are against MP Supriya Sule and believes he has a chance of winning a seat from here.
