The Pune police on Tuesday arrested Shiv Sena MLA Mahadev Babar along with two other corporators Vijay Deshmukh and Pramod Bhangire in connection with illegal demolition of a divider on the Pune-Solapur road in Hadapsar on March 27. They were booked under Sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
After being produced before the Pune Cantonment court,Judicial Magistrate (first class) VV Muglikar remanded them in magisterial custody. They were later granted bail by the court on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 15,000 and a surety of like amount each.
Babar with two corporators and their supporters had removed the divider using a JCB machine on March 27 at Hadapsar.
Babar had claimed that there was a need to remove the divider as it was causing accidents and was laid only for demarcation of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route.
Rakesh Shinde,junior engineer,traffic planning department,Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had registered the complaint against unidentified persons with the Hadapsar police. The PMC officials claimed that the divider was actually build to avoid accidents between the vehicles coming from the flyover and service road. Police had earlier arrested JCB driver Chandrakant Pawat and dumper driver Girvan Yengade in this case.
