Devasthale reigns supreme at district badminton title

Revati Devasthale captured the girls singles under-19 crown as she comprehensively defeated Rucha Rajopadhye at the Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Association,District Badminton Championship. The tournament is being played at the Modern PDMBA complex.

Devasthale,the top seed in the under-19 category,achieved victory with a dominating 21-14,21-13 scoreline. Devasthale looked to be in control of the game right from the beginning as she dictated the proceedings in the 31 minute match.In the mixed doubles (over 45) final,Anil Padgaonkar and Manjusha Sahasrabuddhe defeated Atul Biniwale and Rajshree Bhave. Padgaonkar and Sahasrabuddhe who were seeded second prevailed over the top seeded pair 21-19,16-21,21-18 in the match which lasted for 36 minutes.

In the men’s doubles semi final,Nishad Dravid and Mayank Gole defeated Harshad Bhagwat and Samruddha Rathod. Dravid and Gole’s pair seemed to be a class apart during the first game as they won it 21-4,hardly giving their opponents a chance. The pair then wrapped up the second game 21-12 and progressed to the final. In the other semi,Sameer Bhagwat and Varun Khanvilkar defeated Ameya Oak and Narendra Patil 21-14,21-11. In the boys under-19 doubles semi-final,Sudhanshu Medsikar and Ameya Tillu,top seeds,defeated Narendra Gogawle and Kunal Patil 21-12,21-18.

In the boys under-13 singles semi-finals Shlok Agarwal defeated Anish Rane 21-14,21-16 in a tightly contested match. Kedar Bhide defeated Tejas Chitale in the other semi-final with 21-9,19-21,21-11. In the girls under-13 semis,Sanashree Dhamdhere thrashed Aditi Mahajan 21-7,21-4. In the men’s singles (over 45) semi-final,Atul Biniwale beat A Suresh 21-11,21-11 and booked a berth in the final.
