Back in March 2011,a rundown rice warehouse in Mumbai’s Wadi Bunder got a new lease of life when three fashion lovers decided to set up a concept store here, turning the space into a haven for craftsmanship and luxury. Since then,Le Mill — helmed by Cecilia Morelli Parikh,Julie Leymarie,Aurelie de Limlette — is known for marrying contemporary European aesthetics with modern Indian sensibilities across the spheres of fashion and home décor. But aside from its reputation of offering the latest international fashion and introducing its own Indo-European ideas,it has also enjoyed other distinctions — most recently winning the Superstore award for the year 2013. Announced by Farfetch.com,which forms the hub of a global fashion community that unites independent boutiques around the world with fashion lovers, the award has translated into a proud moment for the co-founders and for architect and interior designer Ashiesh Shah. Shah, who is credited with the space’s transformation, said,“We always knew Le Mill was way ahead of its time in India and for it to get globally recognised makes it even more special.”
