‘Depressed’ senior citizen jumps off 9th floor, dies

Investigation is under way to confirm the cause behind the incident.

An elderly person under “depression” died after he allegedly jumped off the ninth floor of the Siciliaa building on B T Kawade Road on Saturday evening.

Police identified the deceased as Nirmal Lalchand Mirpuri (61).

An accidental death (AD) has been registered with the Mundhwa police station. Police said no suicide not was found at the spot.

Investigation is under way to confirm the cause behind the incident.

Meanwhile, after preliminary investigation, officials at the Mundhwa police station said Nirmal had been undergoing treatment for “depression” for the last few years. He used to come to the Siciliaa often for meeting a friend and walk. Accordingly, he came on Saturday, did his walk and then went to the ninth floor. From there, he is suspected to have jumped down.

There was tension in the area for sometime after the incident took place. A Mundhwa police team rushed to the spot on receiving the information and took Nirmal’s body to a hospital for autopsy.

Police said that an elderly woman, identified as Kanika Adhav, had committed suicide in a similar manner in the same building a few months ago. Local residents said Adhav was familiar with Nirmal.
