After the meeting, Rao informed the media that government agencies are taking co-ordinated efforts towards cashless banking. He also discussed the concerted efforts being taken to open zero-balance accounts for unorganised workers like labourers, domestic helps and farm workers. Awareness programmes on benefits of cashless transactions are also being conducted. “In the last few days, as many as 17,000 bank accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan Scheme. As per RBI guidelines, banks have started approaching those who don’t have an account,” said Rao. Rigorous campaigns will also be carried out to provide the customers with RuPay cards. The process of connecting bank accounts with Aadhaar has also been stepped up, he added.

For free and fair Legislative Council polls, Rao said, the IT Director-General has issued stringent guidelines. A control room has also been set up where people can inform about any illegal practices. “The vigil has been stepped up. The control room has come up before the second phase of MLC elections to help us track cash movement,” he said.
