Deccan Collage organised its eighth convocation on Saturday. Dr Narendra Jadhav,Planning Commission member addressed the students on ‘Never forget the past while moving towards the future’. Dr GB Deglurkar,president,gave away the certificates to students of MA and PhD in Archeology,Linguistics and Sanskrit & Lexicography.

Dr Jadhav who was in the city to attend the ceremony said,“The first draft of the 12th five year plan is ready. It will be finalised in the Cabinet within the next 15 days. In a high-level meeting in November with Chief Ministers in New Delhi,the draft will be discussed and finalised”.

The college also awarded Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters to MA Mehendale,former joint director of DC,PG Lalye,former HOD,Osmania University and A Sundara,former director,State Department of Archaeology,Karnataka for their contribution to their respective fields of work. A Sanskrit encyclopaedia was also unveiled at the convocation.

“After receiving special development grants from the Ministry of Human Resource Development,our University has undertaken the scanning and digitisation project which consists of over a crore data references,” said VP Bhatta,director,DC. “The university has also started the construction of a separate building for an archaeological museum to house valuable artefacts,” he added.
