Criminal charges against 2 corporators for submitting false info during elections

The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to file criminal cases against two newly elected corporators for submitting incorrect information to the election office during the recently held civic polls.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to file criminal cases against two newly elected corporators for submitting incorrect information to the election office during the recently held civic polls.

Pradeep Gaikwad of NCP was elected from panel 22 (Pune station area) while Kalpana Bahirat of MNC was elected from panel 40 (Collectorate area). On the direction of State Election Commission,the PMC election office verified the documents submitted by the elected representatives.

“It has been found that the two elected representatives had furnished incorrect information to the election office. Therefore,the proposal was tabled before the Municipal Commissioner for filing criminal case against them,” said PMC election officer Pravin Ashtikar.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Naresh Zurmure confirmed that the civic chief has approved filing criminal cases against the two corporators.

Gaikwad had not revealed correct information about his kids and it was found that he had three kids as against the eligibility criteria of not more than two children. The corporator has two kids from one wife and one from another.

About Bahirat,the PMC election office found that she had forged her caste certificate to contest the seat from a reserved seat. The records of caste verification department did not match with the documents submitted by Bahirat.

Assistant Returning Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Dhole-Patil ward office,from where the two got elected to PMC,Sandip Dhole,said,”I have received the municipal commissioner’s letter for filing criminal cases against the two corporators. The cases will be filed tomorrow.”

He said the offences would be registered under Sections 171 (G) (false statement in connection with election),177 for furnishing false information and 181 for false statement on oath.

Meanwhile,an inquiry is in progress against two more corporators for submitting wrong caste certificate and birth certificate.
