The investigation into the arrest of two Myanmar nationals for allegedly travelling to Sharjah on fake passports from Pune International Airport now will be probed by the crime branch. The case so far was being probed by the Airport police station.

The immigration branch officers at the Pune airport had handed over the two suspects,Ansari Mehboob Alam (24) and Gazi Najbul Hasan (23),to the Pune police after the two were sent back to Pune by the Sharjah authorities on September 22.

Investigations have revealed that the two chose to travel from an airport like Pune where the electronic verification system of passports had not existed.

The police are currently looking for persons who had helped the two procure fake passports. The police suspect a racket behind this incident.

A police officer said the investigation of the probe will now be transferred to the crime branch of Pune city police as the resources and the manpower needed for the probe could not be allocated.

“The two had entered India via Bangladesh and had stayed at Deoband in Uttar Pradesh for six months. The visa has been issues to them from Jaipur while the tickets to Sharjah were booked from a travel company in Mumbai. This is now a probe that has links to various places. Team from crime branch can dedicate time and resources for the probe which is getting complicated day by day.”

Manoj Patil,DCP (Zone IV) confirmed this development.
