The State Election Commission (SEC) has issued orders to have one date February 17 for counting of votes for both,Zilla Parishad (ZP) and municipal corporation elections. The decision was announced by the state election commissioner Neela Satyanarayan at a press meet in Mumbai on Thursday.
The ZP and Panchayat Samiti elections,which will be conducted on February 7,will now have their results on February 17 instead of February 8. Satyanarayan said the model code of conduct,which was to be lifted on February 8,will continue till the counting date.
She added that the election commission had made arrangements for the necessary Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) which will be required for the elections in 10 municipal corporations as well as ZPs and Panchayat Samitis.
For all Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis,the elections are on February 7,except for four talukas of Gadchiroli district,where elections will be held on February 12, she said.
Many political parties had demanded a single counting date and for this the commission has arranged for 1.81 lakh EVMs. We have procured 1.30 lakh EVMs from the Central Election Commission,24,000 from the Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) and another 27,000 from the SEC, she said.
