Cops lathicharge crowd gone berserk outside former Pimpri mayor’s house

Mob fuelled by rumour that Behl asked traders to lift shutters.

Police in Pimpri had to resort to “mild” lathicharge,when traders gathered outside the house of former Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Yogesh Behl in Sant Tukaramnagar area on Monday afternoon.

As per information given by the police,a large number of traders had gathered outside Behl’s house,after there was rumour that he had led traders to lift shutters.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chinchwad Division) Sudhir Chaugule said,“A large group of traders had gathered outside Behl’s house. As the situation seemed to be going out of control,Pimpri police led by senior inspector Mohan Vidhate had to resort of mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd in the afternoon.”

When questioned,Behl said,“We had asked party workers to follow police orders. Several traders had gathered outside my house. The police were already present there and when they saw the situation worsen,they had to use force to control the mob.”
