Cops hunt for suspects who fled with CCTVs after robbery

The City police have launched a search for suspects who not only decamped with cash and ornaments from shops in Chikhali and Pimpri

The City police have launched a search for suspects who not only decamped with cash and ornaments from shops in Chikhali and Pimpri,but also fled with CCTV cameras to destroy evidence. Two such thefts were reported on Tuesday.

In the first incident,an unidentified person broke into Shree Jewellers at Raj Palance in Chikhali by making a big hole in the wall of the shop and fled with gold and silver ornaments along with a CCTV camera and

computer system,all worth Rs 11.3 lakh.

Shop owner Hiteshkumar Amrutlal Soni (27) lodged a complaint at Nigdi police station. Police said the incident took place after the shop was closed for lunch around 1.30 pm.

The theft came to light when Soni opened the shop around 4 pm and found a big hole in the wall,common with the adjoining shop.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had managed to take the keys of the adjoining shop from its owner by saying that he wanted to take it on rent. However,he used the adjoining shop to enter Shree Jewellers to commit theft.

Assistant Police Inspector P V Bhosale said,“The suspect fled with the CCTV camera installed at the shop. But we have managed to procure his footage from another CCTV camera installed near the shop. The CCTV footage is blurred but we are developing the image.”

In another incident,an unidentified person broke into Lucky General stores in Pimpri and decamped with Rs 3.82 lakh and a CCTV camera.

Shop owner Mohan Ramlal Choudhary lodged a complaint at Pimpri police station. Police said the suspect broke into the shop by cutting the window grills using a gas cutter.
