A complaint has been filed in a city court against Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for allegedly denigrating Lord Vishnu and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by posing as the deity in an advertisement showing him holding different products, including a shoe.

Activist Hemant Patil of Bharat Against Corruption filed the complaint under Section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with an intent to insult the religion of any class) along with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Patil, the picture that appeared in a business magazine depicts Dhoni as Lord Vishnu holding several products, including a shoe. This has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus,he added.

Taking cognisance of the offence, the court has fixed June 13 as the date of hearing.
