With the rising accidents on highways,Pune district collector Vikas Deshmukh has readied short-term and long-term measures to address the traffic management system in the district. As a RTA chairman District Collector Deshmukh said the plan is already under implementation and would be revised according to need.
Divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh had,in a meeting on Wednesday with all collectors in the division,told them to ready a traffic management plan. Pune district already has readied a plan with the help of Regional Transport Authority.
With the divisional commissioner having asked for a meeting in a months time with the update,he said the city already has a traffic management plan in place with assessment of several spots as directed by the divisional commissioner with a team of revenue officials and highway police. We are already working on it and would be making sure there are enough reflectors as well as signage boards on highways. We have the list of spots ready, Deshmukh said.
He further added that a panel under the rural police and the highway police would be doing the needful. The plan also includes repair of dividers,roads and signages at sharp turns. Anti-encroachment drives are also part of the plan.
Short-term measures include equipment for highways and long-term measures like repair work on roads to be carried out with the respective department paying the amount for repair, he added.
The divisional commissioner had also mentioned there should be a plan readied for management of toll booths.
At Khed Shivapur there is quicker clearances now. It is working,however,we would take stock of it again, he added.
If there is a shortage of funds,there would be provisions to make the allocations from the DPDC. The divisional commissioner has asked all district collectors to ready the traffic management plan.
