Pune Pedal Power Foundation is organising its 3rd World Environment Day Cycle Rally on June 3. Model and actor Milind Soman,business woman,social worker and Rajya Sabha MP Anu Aga and officers from the Indian Army will be present. The 13-km rally will begin from S P College Grounds and conclude at the Corinthians Boutique Hotel. The flag off ceremony will take place at 7:30 am,while the other ceremonies will be held between 9 am to 10:30 am.
Research programme for children
City-based Moving Academy of Medicine and Biomedicine had organised a two-month vacation research programme Discovering Little Scientist from April this year. The purpose of the programme was to nurture students by providing them research opportunity at a very early age (14-17 years). This was the fourth consecutive year of the programme and it received a tremendous response from children. So far,89 students have participated in the programme of which 80 per cent are from villages and 60 per cent are girls. Special feature of this years programme was that 4 of the 39 Little Scientists were from tribal areas in Mangoan near Raigad district. Students here conducted health surveys in villages,tribal Padas and city slums for the prevalence of obesity,hypertension,chronic kidney disorder,anaemia and diabetes.
Swiss company Oerlikon Balzers,a major player in industrial coating business,is eyeing expansion. The firm has begun state-of-the-art centres across India and an additional coating centre near Chandigarh is under-construction and will be operational by this year-end,said Dr Hans Braendle,CEO,Oerlikon Balzers,at the inauguration of the Ramesh Keskar Centre of Excellence at Bhosari in Pune. The centre will conduct testing of R&D innovations developed at Oerlikon Balzers R&D Centre in Balzers,Liechtenstein.
