22-yr-old drowns in Bhushi dam

PUNE: A 22-year-old youth drowned in the Bhushi Dam in Lonavla on Monday evening. The Lonavla police said deceased Someshwar Babaji Sontakke used to do tailoring work in Warje Malwadi area of Pune. He was originally from Chandrapur. Police said Sontakke had gone to the dam,along with his brother and a few friends,to enjoy the rains,adding that he entered the water but did not come out. Around 5.30 pm,lifeguards at the spot fished out his body. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. This is the third incident of drowning at Bhushi dam this monsoon.

Kalmadi’s defeat may affect his LS poll plans

PUNE: The defeat of city MP Suresh Kalmadi in the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) elections for the post of president is being seen as a setback to his plans of getting re-elected to Lok Sabha in the 2014 polls. After being suspended by the Congress following his arrest over alleged corruption in organising Commonwealth Games in 2010,Kalmadi’s efforts to get back in the party have failed so far.
