City gets its fourth swine flu victim

A 16-year-old boy from Pune who stayed in the US for around 10 months and returned on July 8 is the fourth victim of swine flu in the city.

A 16-year-old boy from Pune who stayed in the US for around 10 months and returned on July 8 is the fourth victim of swine flu in the city.

The teenager was admitted to Naidu Hospital on Thursday evening,said Dr Sudhir Pachpute,in-charge of the hospital. The National Institute of Virology (NIV) report stated that his throat swab had tested positive for the H1N1 virus,he said.

The teenager had gone to Washington and Chicago on a scholarship programme along with other students,the medical officer said. “We are trying to trace the other students he travelled with and persons he might have come into contact with while travelling,” said Pachpute.

Dr S B Nadoni,Regional Director of Central Government Health Scheme,who is supervising the team of doctors at Pune Airport,said screening of passengers is being done regularly and Tamiflu tablets are supplied as and when required by Naidu Hospital.

Meanwhile,a team of experts from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases,New Delhi,will visit the hospital to review the facilities.
