City gets its 33rd police station

With the inauguration of Bibvewadi police station,the city police got its 33rd police station on Saturday.

With the inauguration of Bibvewadi police station,the city police got its 33rd police station on Saturday. The station has been set up at a place from where the Bibvewadi police chowky was operating earlier.

The police station was inaugurated by Pune police commissioner Meeran Borwankar in the presence of Municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak,joint commissioner of police Sanjiv Singhal,additional commissioner of police (crime) A D Shinde and other senior police officers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Raghunath Khaire said state home department had given approval for the station in April 2011.

Earlier,the Bibvewadi police chowky was operating under the jurisdiction of Sahkarnagar police station. The region that is now covered under Bibvewadi police station are around 10 slums,a few market places,many residential complexes and 14 religious places. Around 400 crimes of different nature were reported annually from this region. They mainly included crimes related to body offence.

Addressing the gathering,Borwankar said trained staff will be made available for Bibvewadi police station by 2013. Till then staff from Pune police headquarter will be deployed at the station.

Borwankar appealed to youngsters to join night patrolling along with the police teams.

Senior inspector Shailendra Shinde and in-charge of the station said a constabulary of 110 has been sanctioned for the station. But as of now 60 constables have been deployed.
