Mayor,two others served notices over EVM tampering

Principal judge of small causes court in Pune M M Umer issued notices to mayor Vaishali Bankar,district collector Vikas Deshmukh and returning officer on Thursday,following an petition by Bankar’s electoral rival Pallavi Prashant Suravase in February. “The court has directed Bankar,Deshmukh and the returning officer to appear before the court on or before April 25,” said advocate B A Aloor,counsel for Suravase. Around 80 candidates who lost in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad civic polls had filed election petitions alleging tampering of electronic voting machines (EVMs),distribution of money by winning candidates and faulty verification of caste certificates.

Two robbed of Rs 17.5 lakh

Two persons working for a metal dealer were allegedly robbed of Rs 17.5 lakh on Wednesday evening by four unidentified persons who came on two bikes near Khadki railway station on Pune-Mumbai highway.
