With chemists in no mood to call off their proposed stir from December 16,Food and Drug Administration officials on Tuesday issued a list of hospitals where medical stores will remain open.

Officials have appealed to doctors at private and government hospitals to stock up drugs so that patients do not suffer.

Chemists across the state have planned a complete shutdown from December 16 to 18 to protest inaction of the state government in resolving their grievances. As many 55,000 chemists, including 6,500 from Pune, will participate in the strike, said Vijay Changedia,Secretary,Pune District Chemists Association.

B R Masaal,Joint Commissioner,FDA,said officials met representatives of the association on Monday but chemists are firm on their stand.

According to chemists, despite a series of agitations, the state-level grievance redressal committee had done little to address the issue. Anil Navandar,Secretary,Maharashtra State Chemists and Druggists Association (MSCDA),said the committee is yet to hold its first meeting. Among their major grouse is the ‘unnecessary’ crackdown on pharmacists and cancellation of their licences by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) if they are not present at the store while dispensing medicines.

According to Masaal,as many as 292 licences of chemists have been cancelled and 96 suspended in Pune division till October this year.

R A Bhilare,Assistant Commissioner,FDA,said in November,FDA cancelled another 56 licences and suspended 8 in Pune division. As many as 93 chemists were issued showcause notices,he added.

With the talks having failed,a special grievance cell has been set up to assist people during the strike. The members of the cell, including R A Bhilare,Vinita Thomas,D S Chouhan,Shamal Mahindrakar,Shrutika Jadhav,Savita Titar and S B Patil, can be contacted at 020-24470276 or emails can be sent to ramchandrabhilare@yahoo.in,cdattatraya@gmail.com,aczone4012@gmail.com.

During the strike,medical stores will remain open 24 X 7 at Deendayal Hospital,Sancheti Hospital,Peridot Hospital (Hardikar),Medipoint Hospital,Deenanath Hospital,Sahyadri Hospital,Poona Hospital,Noble Hospital,Life Care Chemist at KEM Hospital,Ruby Hall Clinic,Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital,Bharati Hospital,Wellness Forever Chemists,Aditya Birla Hospital,Lokmanya Hospital,Sinhagad Medical and General Stores,Sanjivani Medical Store at Sassoon Hospital,Shashwat Hospital,Ratna and Joshi Hospital among others.
