Car in no-entry zone: Driver was drunk,now under treatment

The Pune police have lodged an offence against the driver—who was drunk—of a speeding tourist car that collided with several vehicles in Pune Camp area on Tuesday evening.

The Pune police have lodged an offence against the driver—who was drunk—of a speeding tourist car that collided with several vehicles in Pune Camp area on Tuesday evening. The driver and three others were injured.

The driver,Hrushabh Bhalchandra Talekar (21),a resident of Goregaon,Mumbai,was also injured in the mishap. He has been admitted to Sassoon Hospital.

Police constable S S Naik lodged the complaint at the Cantonment police station. Police said Talekar had taken a couple from Mumbai to Akkalkot in Solpaur on Tuesday. While returning,the couple halted at a lodge in Camp area where the driver allegedly consumed liquor. He then drove the car at high speed from Babajan chowk. After reaching Kohinoor chowk,he entered the no entry zone towards Pulgate hitting at least four four-wheelers and three two-wheelers on the route.

Following this,he went towards Mohammed Rafi chowk where he was stopped and beaten up by the public and later handed over to the police.

Police said the incident took place between 10.15 pm and 10.40 pm. They said three persons were injured in the mishap. Police said Talekar would be arrested soon after he is discharged from the hospital.

Police have booked him under section 279,337,427 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act.

Assistant police inspector S G Korde is investigating the case.
