Even as the state government is yet to announce its decision on “nine subsidised cylinders” per household in a year, speculation is rife that all the nine would be made available to the general public. Earlier,it was being speculated that the additional three cylinders would go to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families only.

Finance Minister Jayant Patil said the department concerned was yet to prepare a final proposal.

“The final decision will be taken only by the Cabinet. After the decision, the government would make the required arrangements. I do not want to make any statement prior to the decision,” said Patil.

Patil said he had a discussion with the department concerned who are preparing the proposal. “I am yet to hear from them,” he said.

After the Centre limited the number of subsidised cylinders per household to six per year,Congress president Sonia Gandhi had said all Congress-led governments should provide nine subsidised cylinders to each household. However, according to officials, the state government had decided that three extra cylinders will only go to BPL persons.
