A magistrates court on Monday granted bail to builder Bharat Narayan Vora (40) of Siddharth Creations who was arrested on Saturday for allegedly encroaching 2,200 sq metre forest land in Wanowrie by preparing bogus documents. He was released against a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and cash security of Rs 20,000 on the condition that he will appear before the forest office every Monday and Thursday, said advocate Abhijit Sakurkar representing the forest department.
Forest officials said they were surveying the land in Mauje Wanowrie survey number 49 for the last two-three months. We realised that the forest-notified land had reduced considerably. We tried to tally it with old maps, new maps and toposheets. We came across 2,200 sq meter of encroached forest land where a residential building is constructed, said Sakurkar.
As per the forest departments remand application,Vora allegedly erased the forest-notification marks, dug the land, moved the forest soil elsewhere and used the land for constructing a residential building without seeking permission of the department. It is alleged the act was done with the help of some officers and workers of the Pune Municipal Corporation and ex-servicemen, stated the application.
The department stated they wanted to investigate how the bogus documents were prepared, seize the forest soil that was allegedly moved elsewhere, seize the original documents used to make bogus papers and to take Vora to the site for inspection.
Vora was charged under various Sections of Indian Forest Act,1927,441 (criminal trespass) and 447 (punishment for criminal trespass up to three months) along with Section 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the IPC.
