The bodies of two girls,who had gone missing after appearing for their HSC examination on Monday,were found in a canal at Hadapsar and Loni Kalbhor on Wednesday.
Primary investigation by the Hadapsar police has revealed that Priyanka Kailas Ovhal (17) and Komal Suresh Pawar (17) of MHADA Colony,Samartha Nagar,Hadapsar,appeared for Geography examination for HSC between 3 pm and 6 pm on Monday. After the exam got over,the girls played colours and then went to the canal at Sasane Nagar in Hadapsar for a wash.
The canal water was flowing with full force. Police suspect that while washing hands,one of the girls slipped into the canal and when the other girl went for her rescue,she too slipped into the water and drowned in the canal water.
Meanwhile,their parents had lodged a missing persons report at the Hadapsar police station around 1.30 am on Tuesday. During search,police had found the bags of the two girls,carrying their identity card,examination receipt and other belongings on the canal side.
The fire brigade was called at the spot. Four firemen conducted search in canal water for about two hours,but could not trace the girls on Tuesday. However,around 10 am on Wednesday,Priyankas body was found in the canal flowing through Satavwadi Laxmi Colony in Hadapsar and around 3 pm,Komals body was found in the canal at Ramdara in Loni Kalbhor.
Priyanka and Komal were students of Akubai Kalyani Junior College. Priyankas father is a ward boy and mother is a housewife. She has a sister and a brother. While Komals father is a iron smith,mother a housewife and has two brothers.
