For musicians Jiten Shende,Randhir Dange and Sundar Rajan, the entire concept of playing music rested on the single pedestal of expression. Having been on the music scene in the city for over a decade now, they dabbled in various genres that included the likes of blues, rock, metal, classic rock amongst others. However post the inclusion of guitarist Aviv Pereira (of Split) the trio, originally known as the G2 Trio, have renamed themselves G2 Live. In the words of Shende, the founding member of the band, they ‘have finally managed to find their true calling with blues-rock after having tried their hand at everything else’. The effort was not a futile one,as they released their debut album ‘Khadki Station Blues’ at Bohemia in Pune on Saturday.

Taking a break from their heavy rehearsal schedule,Shende also the lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist says,“Of course we wanted to play music for people to entertain them but we wanted to play it for ourselves first. That was how our musical journey began. Having played with both Sundar and Randhir,we were comfortable in our space. The idea of an album came only after we were very sure of our genre.”

The name,Khadki Station Blues, according to Shende, has a sentimental value attached to it as it is a lot about his growing up years in Khadki. “In the early 90’s,I was staying there and being a smaller suburb of the city the people were more involved in things like guitar, singing and music,” he says. Shende adds that his music has been influenced by his upbringing in areas like Khadki,Aundh Road and Bhau Patil Road. “The album is a sort of tribute to those carefree growing up days of mine,” he says. Others in the band include Dange as the drummer,Pereira,a guitarist and Rajan as the bassist.

The work on the album began in February and ended in August. The album comprises of seven songs with the title song being more on the classic rock side. Amongst others, the album features songs like ‘Lonely in Love’,which has a heavy guitar riff to it. ‘Pain and Cop Trouble’ have a more classic rock twist while ‘Blues on my Mind’ is more like a blues ballet. “A reason why the band is also called G2 Live is because most of the songs were all recorded on the first take,” said Shende.

Currently busy with plans to tour the country and concerts Shende says that they have enough material for a second and third album. “There is a lot of freedom when you are launching your music independently. By the end of 2013,we will launch the other two albums across the nation,” he adds.
