Black magician held for drug peddling

The Anti Narcotics Cell of Pune police has nabbed a black magician and his two accomplices for possessing 1.2 kg of brown sugar.

The Anti Narcotics Cell of Pune police has nabbed a black magician and his two accomplices for possessing 1.2 kg of brown sugar.

The black magician,Nazir Ahmed Mohammed Hajrat Shaikh (56) alias Devrushi Baba,a resident of Milind Nagar in Mundhwa,is suspected to be a part of the international drug trafficking racket. His accomplices have been identified as Rafiq Kadar Beg (37) of Ashok Nagar,Yerwada and Ahmed Nazir Shaikh (23) of Mundhwa.

Nazir’s son Shahid alias Totra Akhtar Shaikh,a resident of Trombay in Mumbai,was arrested in 2003 along with a Sri Lankan national for possessing 15 kg heroin. Additional commissioner of police (crime) Rajender Singh said that after his son’s arrest,Nazir shifted base from Mumbai and settled in Pune under the garb of a black magician.

Acting on a tip off,a police team laid a trap and nabbed Nazir at his residence at 7.45 am on Friday. The other two accomplices were also nabbed from the spot. The police have also seized two weighing machines,packaging materials and a two-wheeler.

200 drug peddlers under scanner
The crime branch of Pune police has prepared a list of about 200 persons involved in drug trade. “We are keeping a close watch on their movements. Pune has a huge population of foreign nationals. So there is a possiblity of drug trade,” said Singh. “In 2008,the crime branch has registered 51 cases of narcotics with seizure of contraband worth Rs 69 lakh,” he said.
