Beheaded man: 3 of inter-state gang arrested

Dead man was part of gang.

A week after a man was found beheaded in a park in Dighi,Pune police crime branch arrested three members of an inter-state gang in connection with the crime. Police said the deceased was also a member of the gang and was killed following a dispute over distribution of booty.

On the morning of March 22,the body of the middle-aged man was found decapitated at a secluded spot in Rambhau Gawali Udyan at Bhosari Alandi Road.

Police were not able to identify the person. Meanwhile,a sleuth from the Unit 4 of crime branch got a tip-off that a person in connection to the crime had fled to Surat.

A team,led by inspector Arun Walture,was sent to Surat on Friday from where they arrested Jogindar Rupa Chauhan,a native of Uttar Pradesh and a member of the gang active in the state who had committed robberies at several railway stations including Pune. During interrogation,Chauhan said he and three of his accomplices had killed the deceased,identified as Baban Vaman Mhaske,a native of Buldhana,Maharashtra.

ACP Shahaji Solunke said,“Based on the information given by Chauhan,we arrested Shainul Ansari and Prabhu Mahesh Chauhan,both from Uttar Pradesh. Another accomplice Sonu was also involved. He is absconding.”

He added,“Interrogation of the arrested persons revealed there was dispute over distribution of booty from a recent robbery. On March 21,the suspects along with Baban Mhaske consumed liquor,murdered him and dumped his body in the park.

Walture said the suspects are part of an inter-state gang active in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

“We have written to various states for offences registered against them.”
