Badminton tourney: Symbiosis school makes it a day to remember

Abhinav English Medium School won the girls Under-17 category in the inter-school badminton tournament at the PDMBA Modern sports complex on Monday. Playing against DES,Tilak Road in the finals,Abhinav school did not get off to the best of starts as Riya Jail lost the girls singles final to Priya Bhagwat 21-15,21-16.

However,the school clawed back into contention as Jail and Gauri Kinikar trounced Bhagwat and Shivani Joshi 21-16,21-14 in the doubles rubber before Kinikar wrapped up the title for the school,winning the second singles rubber 21-7,21-13 against Anushka Disale.

Symbiosis School won the girls Under-14 category defeating Delhi Public School 2-1 in the final. Vrushi Furia drew first blood for DPS as she beat Riddhi Kawade 7-21,21-16,17-21. Tanishka Deshpande and Sanashree Dhamdhere then restored parity for Symbiosis as they beat Furia and Aishwarya Parasnis 21-6,19-21,21-11 in the doubles rubber. Dhamdhere sealed the tie for Symbiosis,winning the second singles rubber 21-2,21-9 against Jasreet Kaur.

In the boys Under-14 event,Shamrao Kalmadi High School emerged champions as they defeated Symbiosis in the finals. Kedar Bhide could not manage to get Shamrao Kalmadi High School to a good start as he lost the first singles rubber to Rohan Kulkarni 21-13,17-21,18-21.

However,Bhide came back strongly to win the doubles rubber partnering Neel Shah. Bhide and Shah earned a 21-15,21-12 win over Rohan Kulkarni and

Mihir Apte.

In the second singles tie,Neel Shah defeated Tejas Chitale 21-13,21-9 to give Symbiosis the title.

In the boys Under-17 event,Symbiosis pocketed another title as they beat Sevasadan English Medium School 2-1. Symbiosis’s Mihir Palande lost the first singles tie against Ninad Lele 21-14,19-21,17-21.

However,Palande rallied to win the next tie,partnering Rishabh Deshpande in the doubles event as they beat Saahil Lokhande and Ninad Lele 21-17,21-19. Deshpande gave Symbiosis the trophy as he took the third rubber,21-17,22-24,21-7 against Lokhande.
