The University of Pune (UoP)-recommended committee to inspect Fergusson College for the purpose of autonomy visited the college on Friday and Saturday. The six-member committee inspected the infrastructure and other aspects of the college and will submit the report soon to the University of Pune.
The committee was headed by Vishwanath Karad. It also had a UGC member, among others. It was a two-day inspection, said PR Gaikwad,Director,Higher Education.
We are not a recommendation committee,we are just an observation committee. We were there to inspect the college and write a report on what we saw in the college in relation to the academics and infrastructure. This report will then be sent to the University of Pune. University of Pune will then send the report to the University Grants Commission. A committee will then be constituted by the University Grants Commission which will finally recommend the college for autonomy if it finds everything satisfactory, added Gaikwad.
This was just a preliminary step. We hope the process will be complete by the next academic year, said RG Pardeshi,Principal,Fergusson College.
We had first sent the proposal in 2006 and there were a lot of processes in between. We hope the process is completed soon, Pardeshi further added.
