Even as Science and Technology Park’s (STP) deadline to use funds of Rs 5-crore will be over by the end of this month, the University of Pune (UoP) has not allotted the five acre plot that it had agreed to provide for construction of an administrative building for STP.
The STP board members are planning to seek an extension of the August 31 deadline from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) that is funding the project.
“The DST had given us six months to use Rs 5 crore for the Science and Technology Park. We were supposed to inform them about the site for the building by the end of this month. But the university authorities have not yet decided on the allotment of land inside the university campus. If the varsity declines,we will start looking for other options. I am hopeful better option will emerge,” said Rajendra Jagdale,director-general of STP.
He said once the issue of land is solved, the STP board may approach DST seeking an extention in the deadline for usage of funds. “The priority is to get the land,” said Jagdale.
However,UoP vice-chancellor and chairman of STP board Wasudev Gade said he was not aware of any such deadline.
” The university management council has already given an in-principle approval to provide land for setting up the park in the campus. But I am not aware of any deadline. As of now, there is no communication from DST hasn’t in this reagard,” said Gade.
