After cartoonist Aseem Trivedi refused to apply for bail in protest against sedition charges slapped on him,two activists of India Against Corruption (IAC) arrested on Thursday for allegedly holding an illegal rally in Anna Hazare’s support, followed suit.

Deepak Jayprakash Bharadiya (35) from Kothrud,Jagannath Nana Hindre (65) from Patwadhan Baug and Rani Karunakaran (26) from Sahakarnagar were arrested for organising a rally on July 25. They were produced before judicial magistrate first class S S Bose on Thursday. While Karunakaran applied for bail and was released on personal bond of Rs 3000,Bharadiya and Hindre declined. They have been sent to Yerawada jail till September 18.

Bharadiya and Hindre — through their lawyer Milind Pawar, who is also the counsel for Anna Hazare — submitted an application before the court alleging that the police had made false case against them. “The rally was held in a peaceful manner in which hundreds of people participated. There was no law-and-order situation nor was any law violated during the rally,” the application stated. The court had taken the application on record.

Meanwhile, the police hurriedly submitted a charge sheet against the three before the same court. As Bharadiya and Hindre were taken out of the court premises, some IAC activists shouted slogans against the police and government.
