A host of budding tennis stars will lock horns in the AITA Futurepro Tennis Academy Talent Series (Under-12) Tournament 2013 at the Divisional Sports Complex tennis courts in Yerawada from Saturday.

Sponsored by Fujitsu, the tournament for both boys and girls is part of the AITA Junior Tournament Structure. The talent series this year onwards will be played on a zonal basis. Players drawn from Chhatisgarh,Gujarat,Goa,Madhya Pradesh,Rajasthan and Maharashtra will be battling for the title.

Tournament director Radhika Tulpule-Kanitkar said: “The expected participation should be more than 100 players. The depth of talent is huge and thus the tournament promises to be exciting.”

The two-day tournament, held under the auspices of the AITA and MSLTA,is incidentally the first ever to be conducted by Futurepro Academy, which began its operations on February 1,2013. The academy is being run by Radhika Tulpule,a former Federation Cup player and the only woman ITF Level III Coach in India.

A total of three deco-turf hard courts at the academy will be used during the tournament. “The courts,in fact, were inaugurated very recently. The courts along with a seating area has been developed by the Maharashtra government’s Department of Sports,” said organising secretary Pralhad Moghe. Vaishali Shekatkar has been named the AITA supervisor.
