Air India rout C’garh; Namdhari XI scrape past Bhopal

Air India Sports Promotion Board thrashed Chhattisgarh Hockey 15-0 in a one-sided group B clash at the third Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship.

Air India Sports Promotion Board thrashed Chhattisgarh Hockey 15-0 in a one-sided group B clash at the third Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship. Namdhari XI scraped past Hockey Bhopal 4-3,as Hockey Andaman & Nicobar and Chandigarh Olympic Association scored back to back wins in their league rounds.

In the Group B match,hat-tricks by Sommanna Pradhan (5,40,66 min),Affan Yusuf (9,31,68 min) and Joga Singh (18,21,25 min,) helped Air India score a huge over Chhattisgarh.

In another match in the group,F Namdhari XI scraped past Hockey Bhopal 4-3. Sher Singh scored the opening goal for Namdhari in the 12th min,forward Mayank James who scored a hat-trick for Bhopal scored the equaliser in the 22nd minute to level scores 1-1. James then made a couple of brilliant moves to score two goals in a span of seven minutes ,to take Bhopal up by a 3-1 margin.

However,Harpreet Singh scored off a penalty corner in the 50th min to narrow the margin and Dilbag Singh scored off a left flick in the 69th min to level scores. Gurpreet then scored the all-important fourth goal at the very death clinically converting a penalty corner to take Namdhari XI to their second successive victory. Andaman & Nicobar scored a 4-2 win over Haryana in a group D encounter,earlier they had scraped past Maharashtra in the opener.

In a Group H tussle,Chandigarh Olympic Association aided by four goals from Gagandeep Singh thrashed Hockey Assam 9-0.
