After drawing flak from the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar,Chairperson of the PMC standing committee Vishal Tambe decided to cancel his trip to Korea and take up the responsibility of monitoring the monsoon situation in the city. However,a delegation led by Mayor Vaishali Bankar proceeded with the tour that will end on June 19.

Addressing the gathering at the city NCP unit’s anniversary celebrations,Pawar said,“Office-bearer should be present in the city to monitor the monsoon situation. There should be someone with whom we and the public can get in touch during an emergency. Tambe should stay back.”

As part of the celebrations, the party felicitated senior citizens. “The civic body should make provisions for senior citizens by developing gardens like Nana-Nani park, public toilets and provide them with other basic civic facilities,” said Pawar. He added the elected representatives should pay attention to their needs in their electoral wards. The Deputy Chief Minister said the Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana, which was limited to three districts, has now been extended to the entire state.

Reacting to Pawar’s comments on Korea trip,Mayor Vaishali Bankar said the Deputy Chief Minister had particularly asked Tambe to stay back and that there was no need to cancel her trip.

“Tambe is young and efficient party leader. He can handle the responsibility of PMC in the absence of other party leaders,” she said.
