The traffic control branch of Pune police has decided to erect clear and bigger signboards at Khandoji Baba chowk, which will prevent two-wheelers from the junction to Tilak chowk, where a brawl between armymen and police had taken place a few days ago.
The brawl started after traffic police stopped two officers from the College of Military Engineering (CME) at Tilak Chowk for riding a bike (MH 12 EJ 1336) in a no-entry zone. Armed armymen had a major clash with police at the spot. The armymen allegedly manhandled a few mediapersons too, during the incident.
According to the army, the two officers, who had gone to the market on a motorcycle around 7.30 pm on January 31,passed over Sambhaji Bridge (Lakdipul) toward Tilak chowk,as they were unaware of no entry zone without prominent signposts to warn them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said they have decided to put up big signboards at Khandoji Baba chowk showing that it was a no-entry zone for two-wheelers. The signboard would be up in a couple of days, he said.
Photos of brawl handed over to cops
A CD carrying photographs of the brawl at Tilak chowk was handed over to Pune police for investigations. The photographs would help police identify the personnel present at the spot who allegedly manhandled the cops and mediapersons. Two separate police complaints have been registered at Vishrambag police station against the two officers and their colleagues. Police recorded statements of mediapersons who were allegedly attacked by the armymen.
