Even as the state government has announced that Pune will get 15 TMC water from Khadakwasla dam,the irrigation department has stated that they are unable to give more than what has already been allocated from the dam and that further requirement can be fulfilled from Bhama Askhed dam.

“We have already allocated 11.5 TMC water to Pune and the city is using up to 14 TMC. We cannot give more than this allocation. It’s up to the PMC to arrange for further requirement,’’ said Avinash Surve, chief engineer water resources,Pune.

He said the government had already cleared 1.3 TMC from Bhama Askhed and the demand from PMC is additional 1.3 TMC which is likely to be cleared. “This would take time considering that it has to be brought to the city through a dedicated pipeline. However, giving more water from the Khadakwasla dam is not possible,’’ said Surve categorically. He said it was up to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to repair the pipelines.

Meanwhile, senior PMC officials maintained that they had earlier demanded more water from Khadakwasla dam, however it was denied. “We understand that it is not possible to get more water from the Khadakwasla dam. We are hoping for more water from Bhama Askhed,’’ said the official.
